Snoring , well who does not have to do with it? Whatever or does not snoring or bothering someone else’s geron! We all know someone who snores … and often we are that person :). More than half of the people snuggle, and again half of them snuggle regularly!
Not a snurker yourself? Then the chance is still that you know someone who snores (and in many cases it’s the person who lies next to you tonight). That way almost everyone is directly or indirectly affected by snoring. This makes snoring the sleeping problem that by far most people have an effect. But what’s snoring now? And what are the causes of snoring?
What is snoring now exactly?
Snoring is simply the sound that results from the vibration of soft parts (tissue) in the throat when air passes. Often the sound is amplified by an obstruction in the throat. The greater the obstacle, the more effort it takes to pass the air and the harder the vibrations … and so the noise!
Is snoring a problem?
Snurken an sich is not a big problem at all. It is usually not the “snurker” who suffers the problems of snoring … but much more often the partner who suffers from snoring. Snoring is therefore more of a social problem than a medical problem.
Snoring is a social problem
The partner of someone who snores may suffer from sleepless nights resulting in a lack of sleep. Snoring can have a lot of impact on one’s life pattern, social environment, and even relationships. According to an English researcher, even 1 in 10 sets apart from each other with the main cause of snoring. It makes snoring one of the biggest sleep irritations and even a major cause of relationship problems!
Medically speaking, snoring may not be such a big problem, but due to the fact that others may suffer from sleep deprivation , treatment of snoring is often desirable.
Who snores the most?
Snoring occurs more often in men than in women. Probably because the physical of men is more apt to snore. However, the proportion of snoring women is getting bigger. Below you will find out what this is the cause.
Causes of snoring
Snoring may in some cases be caused by another sleeping problem, namely sleep apnea . In sleep apnea , the breath stops for quite a few seconds, then continues with more power than normal breathing. As the breathing occurs with more force, more vibration is caused in the throat.
However, in most people snoring is caused by other factors. It can be about natural causes, or external factors and circumstances.
Snoring is thus caused by vibration in the throat, and can be enhanced by a blockade. This blockade can be physical, think of a large tongue, narrow jaw, big almonds, crooked nose bones, a narrow passage in the nose or a thick palate.
There are also a number of external factors that cause snoring or worsening. Some are temporary, and others have a longer lasting effect.
An example of a temporary cause is alcohol . In excessive alcohol use, the muscles of the jaw and throat (like the rest of our body and mind) are “paralyzed”, or relaxed if you want to call it. This makes the throat more prone to vibrations causing snoring or worsening. Other sedatives may also have the same effect.
This bad habit has a longer lasting effect because smoking causes damage to the trachea, bronchi and lungs. When someone quits smoking, this damage will not be restored immediately, if it is recovering. Smoking reduces the lung capacity which can also be a cause of snoring.Quitting smoking will significantly reduce snoring, and more importantly, improve overall health, fitness and energy.
Obesity is a problem that seems to increase, and a result of overweight is snoring. This because snoring, like smoking, reduces the lung capacity and because it can cause blockages due to weight. This is why the proportion of snoring women increases because overweight is a problem among both sexes.
Snoring often occurs when breathing becomes difficult, and in people breathing through their mouths. Anything that causes breathing to be reduced can be a cause of snoring. This can be caused, for example, by constricted nasal passages, by a cold or by a wrong sleeping position. In general, one does not snuggle or barely when one is on his side. A side position promotes easy and free breathing.
Some of the external causes are partly due to a particular lifestyle, thinking of overweight, smoking and drinking alcohol. Adjusting your lifestyle can sometimes contribute to reducing snoring, either directly or in the long run.
Other causes are self-explanatory, such as a cold . And again, other causes, such as a wrong sleep attitude , are sufficient training. There are also a lot of tools to learn back sleep and to prevent breathing by mouth like an anti snoring strap and nose spreader. There is also an online exercise program to discover the cause of snoring and self-snoring in a natural way. The exercises directly focus on the cause of snoring – Airway blockages through relaxed tongue and throat muscles and a relaxed palate.
