A snoring bedpartner, beeping doors, moving traffic … The night is full of sounds that can keep you from sleep. Earbuds can provide a solution. But can you actually? Is sleeping with earbuds harmless? And what types of earplugs can you use?
Sleep with earbuds
Some people seem to be able to sleep everywhere (and throughout). In the waiting room of the dentist, in the plane, on the couch. Unfortunately, not everyone is blessed with this gift. There are people who fall less quickly and less well and sleep with earbuds.
Earbuds can make it easier for you to fall asleep. They filter the ambient noise, which causes the sleeper to wake up less quickly with scars and loud noises. With me personally they often have a result of mosquitoes. If I find something to be annoying, it is. They can tick me if I do not hear them: P.
Are earbuds harmless?
But can earphones really not hurt? Can you just sleep with earbuds every night? Yes, that’s possible. In principle, there are no risks associated with sleeping with earplugs.
However, it is necessary to keep the earbuds well clean. This is important for hygiene, so you can not induce ear infection. So clean them regularly with some warm water and soap and make sure all the wax is removed.
Do you have ear infection or clogged ears? Then let them lie on your bedside table. To make the inflammation worse, it is better not to wear them anymore.
Disadvantages of earbuds
Really big disadvantages to using earplugs are not. What you could see as a disadvantage is the pleasure. Some people have more trouble sleeping without earplugs over time. For example, when sleeping outside and they are forgotten.
Those who have a lot of trouble waking up and having to sleep through the alarm clock regularly must also take care. ear plugs can make sure you do not hear the alarm clock.
Furthermore, it’s debatable if you like sleeping. I sometimes use (cheap / standard) earbuds if I have a problem with mosquitoes or noise from outside / neighbors. If I look at my side, I do not always think it is as comfortable. In addition, I can regularly look for earplugs in the morning.
Types of earplugs
There are different types of earbuds of various brands. Below are some examples of commonly used earplugs:
Waspballs (eg of Ohropax)
These ‘classic’ ear plugs are made of paraffin, cotton wool and petroleum jelly. They can be shaped well into your ear and therefore fit in every ear. The earbuds are not forever used forever because they become dirty sooner.
Foam covers (eg EAR)
The foam strap is also such a classic variant. These earbuds are light and soft and are widely used. They are cheap in purchase, but have only one size. Therefore, they will fit less well in some ears.
These more advanced earphones dampen the ambient sounds, but do not hide the ears. They remain beautiful in shape and are therefore good to use. However, they should be well kept clean. More info can be found on the Alpine site.
The one finds a soft earbud more enjoyable, while the other prefers a little more firmness. So you have to find out which earplugs you like best and which ones work best for you.
