Paranormal experience explained by sleep disorder?
You wake up and you can not move. Breathing is difficult, and you have the terrifying feeling that something malignant is present. You hear strange noises … footsteps, mumbled. You want to move, but it seems like a strange force stops you. You have no control over your body, you want to scream but nothing comes from your mouth. You panic more, you try to resist and get rid of, but whatever you try, you can not manage!
Is this experience familiar with you? Then there is a chance that you have had a sleep paralysis .
Sleep paralysis or sleep loss is a sleep disorder in which the muscles in the body paralyze at the time of wake up. There is still little known about sleep paralysis, although it is suspected that it is a symptom of narcolepsy . It remains uncertain because it is a fact that sleeper analysis can occur in everybody. It is estimated that about 20% of people get a living in sleep with a minimum of 1x in life. It is normal for our muscles to paralyze during REM sleep (when we dream ). This is a protection mechanism of our body to prevent us from actually performing the movements of our dreams and hurting us. In case of sleep paralysis, someone is actually in between the dream and the wake up position. You are paralyzed, and there are still hallucinations (kind of dreams). It is therefore a vague and difficult to contain combination of dreams and being awake.
Or could it have been a paranormal experience?
You can imagine that this can provide very frightening experiences. Many people are therefore very convinced that they have had a paranormal experience. That supernatural powers, spirits, demons or even aliens have been working …
It does not seem so strange to me that people think of such things, especially when someone has never heard of this sleep disorder. The hallucinations that one has during sleep paralysis can be very realistic and are difficult to explain. Although little is known about this phenomenon, sleep paralysis could be a pretext for a lot of paranormal experiences of people.
3 Common Paranormal Experiences
1. OLD HAG-SYNDROME
There is a hallucination that occurs very often … The feeling that there is a demonic being on your chest that you try to choke. It is obvious that the legend of the Incubus originated from this. The Incubus is a male demon who sat on women’s breast at night with the purpose of raping them. The legend of the Incubus is found in different cultures. People who claim to have seen the Incubus describe these as a big evil black spirit.
During an so-called out-of-body experience, someone has the feeling that body and mind are disconnected. In most cases, one floats above the bed and looks down on the own body that is still lying on the bed. An error in the alignment of brain activity and muscle tension would be a statement for this experience.
3. ABDUCTION BY ALIENS
Especially in America there is a regular report of abduction by alien creatures. The experiences of people who have experienced this have many similarities. Thus, the abductions usually find themselves in the bedroom, just after awakening. The victims are usually completely paralyzed. This experience also shows the necessary similarities to sleep paralysis.
Or not a sleep paralysis?
Sleep paralysis could be a very good explanation for many paranormal experiences. It’s obvious … but there are no facts on the table yet. There are paranormal researchers who claim that there are evil entities visiting us during sleep at night. In addition, there will of course always always be strange experiences of people who differ from the usual symptoms of sleep paralysis. I would put my money on the statement … but 100% sure we’ll probably never do it!
