Can you sleep a baby? The trick is to teach your baby to fall asleep so that he can reassure himself at night. But he only learns if he is there.
Adults also wake up a number of times at night. We are turning around and can not remember it next morning. The same must be learned from a baby. As soon as he can, he stays asleep!
So yes, a baby can learn to sleep. Here is a note: he can only do that if he is.
Compare walking or talking with learning, too, you can not enforce it. But if you are accompanying your baby from a week or 6and learning good sleep habits, real sleep problems will usually fail and sleep your baby when he is there.
1. Sleep ritual
From a week or 6 to 8, a baby is old enough to recognize a sleep rite . Through the same sequence of actions he finds it’s time to go to sleep. A sleep rhythm can consist of a clean diaper , attracting a sleeping bag , singing a song and a kiss.
2. Waking up in bed
From 6 to 8 weeks you can start sleeping with your baby one or more times a day, but still awake. As a result, he learns to fall asleep without being dependent on you.
How do you determine the right moment to put your baby in his cradle? Keep a scale of 1 to 10 in mind. A 1 stands for ready awake, a 10 for deep sleep. Put your baby in bed at 7. In addition, he has been dumbfounded, but is still aware of the fact that he is put in his bed.
Put him down calmly and do not make eye contact! Small babies are stimulated by least or least and eye contact is an infamous. If it’s not successful yet, do not worry. Please try again later. From a month or 4 you can wake up to bed in bed at any sleep.
3. A hug, blanket or teat
Give your baby something in bed that’s familiar with which he can reassure himself. That can be a hug (not too big with little babies!), A towel or a toy .
Does your baby have a lot of trouble to be without you at night? Then wear a towel for a day with you in your bra so that it smells like your baby and put it in the cradle.
4. Feeds more often during the day
By feeding more often during the day, your baby needs less nutrition at night. From four months, babies are so alert during the day that they often drink just enough to put the worst hunger on. What they have missed during the day, they get back at night. By offering more often during the day and possibly feeding in a quiet place, you can avoid this.
5. Make it dark
Make the room in the evenings and at night as dark as possible. That way, the biological clock works and teaches the difference between day and night . Especially for children who sleep light and wake up, dark curtains make a world of difference.
The Gro company has made very good darkening curtains . These can be hung and detached in a snap so that they are also ideal for use during overnight stays.
6. Keep it unoccupied at night
Make the night foods as uninteresting as possible. No cuddle, no talk. The night is there to sleep. Keep the lights dimmed, with a good night light. We have put the four best and most beautiful ones in front of you.
Most diapers are made up to take urine for up to 12 hours. If there is no poop pants, then you do not have to change between 7 o’clock in the evening and 7 o’clock in the morning.
7. Permanent times
From a month or 3 you are welcome to get your baby out of bed every morning and to bed in bed at the same time. So also on weekends!
In the morning, make clear that this is the beginning of the day: open the curtains, enjoy the daylight and talk to him. Construction in the evening half an hour before bedtime, the day is quiet. Talk calmly, do not worry and turn off the TV and radio. That way you help him in a rhythm.
8. Know what to expect
Between 2 and 4 months, most babies will “sleep” . Unfortunately for you, this does not mean full night’s sleep. Medical means sleeping 5 a 6 hours sleep after each other. Most babies therefore sleep in this period from 12 o’clock in the morning until 5 o’clock in the morning.Around 6 months, most babies sleep from 11 to 7. Physically, nourishments are usually no longer needed.
What if this does not help?
Is your baby still alive at night? Does not he fall asleep after a night’s sleep? Or does he still want to breastfeed after 2 o’clock after the night? Often, there are short stages in which your baby is restless. Have plenty of rest, body contact and structure during daytime and it will usually be better soon.
If your baby stays restless, consider sleeping together or studying a sleeper. The latter can be done in many different ways and does not really mean to make your baby cry endlessly. For everyone there is a method available, with cry but also without crying.
