Eating chocolate before bedtime is not so convenient. The compounds theobromine and caffeine in cocoa provide increased alertness after eating chocolate. The effect is not as strong as coffee, but you better have a few hours before going to sleep no chocolate eat.
In addition, there are substances in cocoa that can improve mood, such as tryptophan . It is sometimes said that this would make your body produce more serotonin, which in turn helps create melatonin , which in turn causes you to be sleepy. But these substances are present in chocolate in too low amount to have a measurable effect.
So if you want to eat chocolate, do not eat it as a sleep, but just occasionally because you like it and enjoy!
