Most research deals with the effects of sleep on weight control, but an American researchfrom Purdue University turned around and focused on the question: What are the effects of weight loss and a high protein diet on your sleep?
Effect of weight loss and a high protein diet
Scientists found that a calorie-poor diet with a higher amount of protein improves sleep quality for middle-aged adults. This sleep quality is better compared to those who lose the same amount of weight with a normal amount of protein in their diet. People from the research who take more protein during weight loss reported an improvement in sleep quality after about three to four months.
“A chronically short sleep period and compromised sleep quality often lead to cardiovascular disease and, in some cases, to premature death. Given the high prevalence of sleep problems, it is important to know how changes in diet and lifestyle can help improve sleep “Said researcher Jing Zhou. This research contributes to improving sleep quality and the growing list of positive results of higher protein intake in combination with weight loss.
